Volunteer — a proud word that stands for bravery, courage and valor. Volunteers went to war even when they did not have to; they stepped up to rescue people during emergencies; they have been trying, and still try, to make the world at least a little better and a little more just.

What does a volunteer mean to us? It is a healthy person who wants to help science, medicine and the pharmaceutical industry by taking part in a clinical study. Volunteer work is paid, of course. And it is worth emphasizing the complete safety of every person taking part in our research.

How do clinical studies proceed? Always differently. In some cases a person simply comes to our center once, takes a specific substance and returns 2–4 days later. Sometimes a volunteer needs to be hospitalized for 1–2 days for better study of how the drug affects the body. In this case all expenses are, of course, covered by our center. Other scenarios are also possible. Everything depends on the investigational product and the goals of the study.

What should a volunteer who plans to take part in a clinical study keep in mind? First, every study is pre-approved by the country’s Ministry of Health and by the Ethics Committee. This means the substance under investigation is absolutely safe for the human body, manufactured on modern high-quality equipment in compliance with all norms and rules. Its study in humans does not contradict global ethical principles. Second, full confidentiality is guaranteed to the study participants. Third, volunteers who complete the entire study cycle and fulfill all agreed conditions necessarily receive compensation. Fourth, our center organizes a full, free examination of volunteers before their direct participation in the study. This is done to determine the health status of the potential participant and to rule out conditions that could affect the study outcome.

What kinds of substances are most often studied? Mainly drugs whose equivalents are already sold in our country. Some manufacturer has decided to start producing an analogous product and, by law, in order to obtain the permit, must conduct a clinical study. The study will demonstrate that the investigational drug is analogous to a product already on the market. The doses of the investigational products are quite small and most often cause no side effects in volunteers.

Payment guarantees are also very important. Our organization signs an official contract with every volunteer, who is also insured. Once the study is completed the participant receives compensation. The result of our cooperation with a volunteer is mutual satisfaction and mutual benefit.

Please note that conducting clinical studies with volunteers is a completely legal activity. Moreover, it is standard global practice. Such studies are organized in practically every developed country. It in no way contradicts generally accepted ethical norms. Participation in studies is, of course, voluntary — that is, based on the potential volunteer’s own desire and interest.
